Divine Genetics

All of God's DNA contained in the seed He plants in us!
1Pe 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever
An incorruptible seed, imperishable, not subject to decay…eternal
Parable of the Sower: other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up.
· Mar 4:14 The sower sows the word.
· The “Word”, the Logos of God
Refresher:
There were 2 trees in the midsts (center) of the garden
· Tree of Life
· Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
The Genesis record tells us that trees and plants would produce only fruit (seed) after their own kind
· Because man ate from the TOKGE, we were destined, in fact only able to eat the wrong seed, and to pass it along through the generations preceding Christ.
· No choice. A “done deal”
So God needed a new Tree, a tree that we could access in order to be reset with a new seed.
· A Tree of Life that would release divine, eternal seeds…to be sown in the hearts of you and me.
So we see the Cross of Christ…a Tree…one upon which a seed died and went into the ground, in order to produce new seed…God’s seed that would change everything. (Joh 12:24)
An incorruptible seed, the Logos of God, ready to be implanted in those who would believe in the risen Christ.
For today’s purposes, let’s talk about an Acorn
I’m all too familiar with acorns. We have an abundance of 100 year-old oak trees at our home in Greensboro, and even more at our home in Black Mountain.
Acorns: so small; but so amazing.
As the shell of the acorn decays, and is exposed to sunlight and rain, a small sprout emerges…
And over time becomes a mighty oak tree
From this “seed” to this towering 100’ tall oak tree.
What’s mind-blowing to contemplate, is that all the genetic code needed to turn that miniscule seed into a massive tree is in the acorn.
· The entire blueprint
· The entire sequencing for growth and maturity
· The utmost potential for that oak tree contained in the acorn
The God-given design of the oak tree is fully contained in the acorn.
As believers, we have God’s divine seed inside, fulfilling the words Paul wrote to the Colossian church:
[Read] Col 2:9-10; 1:26-27
We are both “in Christ” and He is “in us”, bearing all the fulness of God.
Jesus Christ, the Logos/Word of God, living in us by His Spirit truly made us new Creatures…new Creations.
God’s divine blueprint; His genetic code instilled in us…making us indeed new creatures.
That genetic code includes all the fulness of God, but it clearly doesn’t mean we become God. We just become born into His spiritual image.
· Its like the potential of the massive oak tree found in the acorn, except it’s heavenly potential deposited in us; His blueprint for our lives uniquely instilled in us.
· So why don’t we see that full potential released immediately as we’re born again?
Coaching example:
· Baseball and basketball (9-11 year olds; some older)
· Observations about other kids
o Some high performing little kids became ordinary adolescent performers
o And some low performing little kids became adolescent studs
· The beginning place didn’t always align with the ending place
o Acorn kids…small in stature… would often grow into impressive oak tree kids.
o Why? The genetic code (DNA) served as the design, the blueprint for their growth. And that DNA would trigger significant changes as these kids developed.
In the same way, God’s DNA planted in us as a seed, contains the blueprint for our growth as believers. As we serve Him, His genetic code within us activates His fruit and gifts.
· But it may not be automatic
· We have a role to play in that gift activation and fruit
A potential growth of an oak tree can be stunted, even though the blueprint calls for a hundred foot giant with massive branches and fruit.
How?
o Lack of sunlight
o Lack of rain
o Lack of good soil or over-crowding by adjacent trees
To grow we need the Light (Jesus the Word) and the Water of the Spirit.
We also need space to grow, to have an intimacy with God that isn’t just rubbing shoulders all the time with other believers.
· Fellowship…of course and both frequent and rich
· But not a substitute for personal time with Father God
So while we have a role to play, there is still that divine DNA in us that at different moments releases gifts and fruit.
Its easy to be discouraged, thinking that what we see now in our lives is all God has for us; that no supernatural gifts will be released, or fruit in abundance.
Yet, all the fullness of Jesus is in us, and it may simply be that the genetic trigger(s) for certain manifestations haven’t yet occurred.
· So we lose hope and expectation
· Not knowing that a divine trigger is just around the corner;
· Or maybe needing a little more light and water
We might say they are latent, not yet revealed, and awaiting His activation.
· Sometimes that happens through Prophetic activation
· Sometimes through a revelation
· Sometimes simply through patience
What must we do to see His blueprint realized in our lives?
Don’t believe the lie that He hasn’t imputed His divine seed within, just because you/we don’t see the expected manifestations yet
Expose the seed to God-light…Jesus, the Word of God.
o Often and with intention
o Invite Holy Spirit, as the “water” of God, to have His way at all times
o Pray in the Spirit, Rejoice in the Spirit, etc. etc.
o Ask Him to use you in ministry to others. Do so with expectation.
As I think about the kids that started modestly in sports, maybe even dwarfed by the talent of other young kids, I watched some of those under-performing athletes become rock stars in sports.
· Because they practiced and practiced some more.
· They put their desire into motion…in a sense…seeking first the (kingdom) result they wanted by diligence and repetition.
· They didn’t let their lowly stature as a small acorn determine the size of the oak tree they would become.
We can do the same, as Jesus said (Mat 6:33)
· “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
If you’re feeling like a small acorn and wondering about a lack of gifts or fruit manifestion, come up for ministry.
· We want to help blast away the enemy’s lies
· And believe God to hear your cry and begin to release His gifts and fruits on His timetable
